Emby Mattila Granhom went to Duluth MN when she was 18 and did housework in homes there. She also worked as a cashier in the National Tea Company of Cloquet and as a bakery clerk after she got married. Emby and her husband started in business for themselves by opening a corner grocery store in Cloquet while John worked for the Railroad. Later they moved to Cromwell Minnesota and opened another grocery store which also had gas pumps. They turned this store over to their son Jimmy when they decided to take life easy.
